Thank-you for recognizing someone through a special donation to the Nineteenth Century Charitable Association. While you can recognize anyone for any reason, we have categorized these special donation in two categories - memorial and celebration. And for each, you can designate the specific area within the work of the Nineteenth that best honors your special person.
The Mission of the NCCA: Learning, Giving and Sharing our Landmark Building
The focus areas of the Nineteenth that you can designate for your donation are:
- Programs - we offer weekly programs that are free to the public from October to May covering 5 topics: Art, Literature, Music, Science and Social Science. You may contribute to Programs as a whole or pick one of the program categories..
- Scholarships - we give scholarships to graduating seniors from Oak Park River Forest High School to help them through with their education. These scholarships are renewable for four years to students who maintain the academic and reporting requirements of NCCA.
- Building - NCCA owns the building where we hold our programs and where we offer reduced or free rent to other not-for-profit organizations who need meeting or event space. Our building has Oak Park Landmark status and is almost 100 years old, so meeting maintenance and improvement costs of the building itself and its contents are an ongoing need. Our two Steinway pianos, original artwork and furnishings are examples of ongoing maintenance requirements beyond the building itself.
- General Operating - Costs related to the day-to-day requirements of the organization, ranging from staff payroll through utilities, licenses, etc. are ongoing costs that enable the NCCA to meet our mission.
