Writer Sue Baugh will present the history of the 1862 war between the Dakota Sioux and the U.S., a war so fierce that President Lincoln had to pull troops out of the Civil War to fight the Dakota. This war, largely forgotten, ended with the execution of 38 Dakota, the largest mass execution in US history. Its legacy reflects the country’s larger white-Native American history and still affects descendants on both sides today.
