The Trail of Tears
Joyce Hayworth will take us to 1828. Andrew Jackson was just elected. He was determined to end the land claims of the Indian tribes east of the Mississippi. The Cherokee stood against him and sued for their land rights in the Supreme Court. The battle that followed and the eviction of the tribes to Oklahoma illustrates the weaknesses of the constitutional system, the power of greed and the suffering of a people. $15 suggested donation (non-members) helps support our Enrichment Series.
