Georg Jensen: Scandinavian Design for Living

Danish silversmith Georg Jensen (1866-1935) founded the design company that bore his name in 1904. His practice in Copenhagen contributed to the meteoric rise of Scandinavian design in the U.S. and around the world. The silver produced by the company combining gleaming sculptural forms and lush ornament, found expression in ornamental serving dishes, inventive candelabra, and refined tea services.

This richly illustrated lecture highlights the artistic journey of Jensen and the iconic designers who transformed contemporary life and material culture. Jeffrey Nigro serves as President of the Classical Art Society of the Art Institute and teaches Adult Education seminars at the Newberry Library.

Lunch is offered at noon.  To make a reservation, click here
