American Indian Art at the Newberry - Dr. Patricia Marroquin Norby

Director of the D'Arcy McNickle Center at the Newberry Library, Dr. Norby shares intimate and in-depth stories of American Indian individuals and communities as artistically represented in the Ayer Art Collection; one that includes 130,00 volumes, 2,000 maps, 500 atlases, 11,000 photographs and 3,500 drawings or paintings, all relevant to American Indian history and visual culture.  The program offers insight into three generations of the Dr. Charles Eastman family, the friendship between Geronimo, the renowned portrait painter Edward Burbank, and the experiences of the Potawatomi scholar Simon Pokagon.

Dr. Norby is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Field Museum. Her professional background includes exhibition and curatorial work with the Smithsonian amongst many other endeavors.
