Author Carl Smith w ill provide an overview of the Great Chicago Fire of October 8-10, 1871 and the city’s recovery from the fire, based on his book, Chicago’s Great Fire : The Destruction and Resurrection of an Iconic American City. Smith will a lso offer a more specific discussion of the multiple ways women, including through charitable associations, played a major role in the fire and the re covery.
