The great jazz singer Billie Holiday has long been associated with the song “Strange Fruit”. First recorded in 1939, this early protest song symbolized the brutality and racism of the practice of lynching in America. Now, more than 80 years later, such is the song's endu ring power. An Oak Park resident for 40 years, presenter Jim Madigan is an adjunct professor at IIT where he teaches the course “Songs of Justice and Injustice”.
