Drug use is a major medical, legal, and socioeconomic problem worldwide. In the United States, large amounts of financial and human resources are expended to combat the problem. Forensic drug tests are used as evidence in legal proceedings. Donna Coy, Ph.D., from USDTL will present an overview of applications for forensic drug testing, such as child endangerment, child custody, professional licensure, and driving under the influence (DUI). Innovative specimen types such as umbilical cord, hair, and nails will be discussed as well as the effects of reliable, unambiguous results of drug testing on those tested.
